  •  Teaching Objectives:

(1) English: Each student at Wenzao needs to complete 24 credits of General English courses, in order to equip himself/herself with basic communication skills in the international language.

 

(2) Southeast Asian languages: Complete at least 26 credits of courses required for a major in a Southeast Asian language and elective courses on another Southeast Asian language, such as Thai, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Khmer, or Lao.

 

(3) Studies on Southeast Asian governments and enterprises: Interdisciplinary courses on politics, society, and business administration in Southeast Asia will be provided to undergraduates. All required courses in the Department will be “taught in English.” Depending on students’ abilities, professional elective courses related to a chosen language will be taught in the “target language,” such as conducting research on the Vietnamese market in Vietnamese.

 

(4) Graduation requirements regarding participation in an exchange program or internship in Southeast Asia: Each student needs to participate in an exchange program or internship in Southeast Asia for at least an academic semester cumulatively, in order to improve his/her international mobility.

 

  •    Credit Requirements:

       1. Course structure: 131 graduation credits

 

(1) Profound liberal studies: 32 credits of required courses offered by the General Education Center and the College of European and Asian Languages

 

 

(2) Interdisciplinary professional courses on Southeast Asian affairs: 49 credits of required and elective professional courses on Southeast Asian affairs

  •   12 credits of required courses on Southeast Asian governments and enterprises will be taught in English.
  •   Depending on students’ abilities, professional elective courses related a chosen language will be taught in the target language.

 

(3)  Training on languages: 50 credits of required and elective courses on languages

    • 24 credits of university-wide General English courses
    • 20 credits of courses required for a major in a Southeast Asian language: choose one out of three options (Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai); it is specified that an intermediate and advanced Southeast Asian language (4 credits) needs to be studied in the “target country.”
    • 6 credits of elective courses on a Southeast Asian language: Southeast Asian languages other than the one chosen to study; options may include Khmer, dialects in the Philippines, and Lao, in addition to Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Thai.

      

  2.  Graduation requirements:

 

(1) Obtain a score of 240 or above in the College Student English Proficiency Test (CSEPT).

 

(2) Pass at least a Southeast Asian language (Vietnamese/Indonesian/Thai) proficiency test.

 

(3) An internship related to Southeast Asian affairs.

 

(4) Participate in an exchange program or internship in Southeast Asia.
